Early Data: 81% Want Major U.S. Projects to Prioritize American Workers, Suppliers and Communities

Early findings from our 2027 Made in America Domestic Content Study offer an important lesson for infrastructure developers, government agencies, corporations and investors: major projects are increasingly expected to demonstrate who benefits from the investment. Billions of dollars are flowing into energy, data centers, advanced manufacturing, transportation, housing, utilities and other critical infrastructure. Early study data shows that 81% of respondents to date support major U.S. projects that prioritize American workers, suppliers and communities. This percentage represents an early finding from an ongoing national study, not a final result, as DomesticContent.com continues to collect perspectives from stakeholders throughout the year.

This early signal has significant implications for infrastructure development and public-private projects. Domestic content should be considered at the beginning of project development, not after approvals, financing or construction have begun. Developers can identify American suppliers, assess workforce capacity, understand community priorities and establish measurable goals for how project spending creates economic opportunity. Government agencies can use similar intelligence to better connect tax credits, incentives, grants and public investment with workforce participation, supplier opportunities and community benefits. For corporations and domestic and international investors, a strong domestic content strategy can strengthen supply chains, build community trust and demonstrate the broader economic value created by an investment.

The lesson is increasingly clear: public-private infrastructure development should begin with a domestic content strategy. The question surrounding the next billion-dollar project should not simply be, “How much are you investing?” It should also be, “How much of that investment will create opportunities for American workers, suppliers and communities?” The 2027 Made in America Domestic Content Study is building the data intelligence needed to help government, industry and investors answer that question.
